Jawaharlal Nehru University Admission Procedure

The Jawaharlal Nehru University was established to promote the principles of Jawaharlal Nehru in which he worked during his whole life- national integration, social justice, secularism, democratic way of life and understanding the internationalism and also the knowledge about the scientific inventions to the society. The University provides various schools of studies across the country which includes Bachelor’s and Master’s level courses. The admission in JNU is on the basis of the merit and the students who have already enrolled himself in a full time programme will not be able to enroll him for another programme at the same time.

Admission Notice

Announcement for the admission for the various programmes of JNU is published in the newspapers all over India through various publications in different regions.

Entrance Examination

The written examination for the various courses held at the selected centres by the university across the India and usually organizes in the third week of the month of May every year by the standing committee. The question paper is set for each programme and is of three hours duration. The examination is held for four days only at different sessions on each day, this allows many students to get admission in JNU. Also the students are able to change their examination centres provided by the university.

Viva Voce Examination

Viva voce examination is for the selected courses – MA in foreign languages, BA (Hons.) second year, advance diploma in Mass Media, M.Phil. /Ph.D. programmes, COP programmes and the merit lists are prepared for the categories- SC, ST, OBC and PH categories on the basis of the overall performance in written and viva-voce examination.

The weightage for written and viva-voce examination should be:

For the eligibility of viva-voce examination, the candidate should secure the following marks out of 70 in the written examination:

M.Phil./Ph.D, Pre-Ph.D./Ph. D, MPH/Ph.D, M.Tech./ Ph.D. 35% or we can say 24.50 marks out of 70. 31.50% or we can say 22.05 marks out of 70. 25% or we can say 17.50 marks out of 70.
MA, BA  (Hons.) second year and part time programmes where viva-voce is required 25% or we can say 17.50 marks out of 70. 22.50% or we can say 15.75 marks out of 70. 15% or we can say 10.50 marks out of 70.

Reservations

The seats are reserved for the different categories- 27% seats are reserved for OBC, 15% seats are reserved for SC, 7.5% seats are reserved for ST and 3% seats are reserved for the physically challenged students.
